For those who have traveled into the desert going out towards Las Vegas or Texas, you’ve most likely seen this candy while taking a pee break at a gas station:
Yep! That’s right, the weird looking amber colored lollipop with that sad little worm in the middle of it. I found this gem at a gift shop in San Antonio next to the Alamo! For $1.95, you too can experience a taste of the dark side without the repercussions (aka the morning after… barf!)
Despite the novelty of this candy, you can’t help but feel sorry for the little guy who feels all the heat from the tequila flavored lollipop business- the worm! Or well, if you want to get technical, larva. You see, these guys aren’t actually worms at all, they’re baby butterflies and caterpillars! But instead of being called larvae, they’re called worms.
And instead of living out its life doing worm like things, these poor little guys instead found their end in a hot bath of oil and are laid to rest in a pool of “tequila flavored” syrup, immortalized forever (or at least until consumption) in a weird “help me! help meee….” position. Don’t these lollipop manufacturers know that these little guys, despite suffering from a harsh identity crisis, have dreams too? Like graduating insect high and going to dance school to perfect “the worm?” Or maybe even going into training to become the next great worm game champion!
L’sigh. Guess some larvae aren’t meant to know.

I’m so depressed right now I’m not even kidding. I need to drown myself in tequila candy … in honor of my fallen comrade. We shall never forget thee … Earthworm Jim.
