Fun with money!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tin @ 12:09 am

Hi everyone!

Hankthebank told me that because I’m currently in first place, I get the privilege of writing this post to update you all on what’s going on with the stock challenge! So here it is–

I’m winning! Why? Because I’m awesome! AND I have a profit of $18.39.

These people are losing:

Hank the Bank
Profit: $13.15

Looks like everything is on the ups for HanktheBank! However, looks like he’ll make making some changes. HanktheBank is going to sell AAPL and buy one share of SDS. We’ll see if this helps him or hurts him! For my sake, lets hope it hurts him.

The Hurt
Profit: $13.14

Looks like picking only YHOO has proven to be a good, safe bet for the Hurt!

TruckwithouttheKey
Profit: $3.81

TruckwithouttheKey is the only player with losses this week. Both MO and TTES are down. 😦

And there you have it! The player’s names are listed in order of how close they were to being number 1!

More details on why I am in the lead are located here. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go count my fake riches now in the Turkmenistan style. Happy trading everyone 🙂

Mo Money, Mo Problems…oooohhh woooohhhh….

Filed under: Uncategorized — hankthebank @ 10:52 pm

So it begins again… Back by popular demand, welcome to…. The 200 Tacos Stock Challenge: Part 2! Not much to say here, but let’s do some quick analysis of our players and what they’re carrying.

1. Hank the Bank
Initial Holdings: AAPL, C, GM
Strengths: Smarter than the entire field combined.
Weakness: Got lazy down the stretch (probably due to boredom and lack of challenging opposition) and didn’t execute to close out the game.
Strategy: Majority of portfolio is betting on blue chip Apple. Safe bet. The rest is betting on the most distressed companies in the most distressed sectors. Nice balance, wouldn’t you say?

2. Tinmaker
Initial Holdings: COKE, BBY, LIZ
Strengths: N/A
Weakness: Tends to rely on retail for some reason, which was the sole reason for an embarrassing performance in the last contest. Looks to be more of the same this time around.
Strategy: Buy names you see at the mall, regardless. RE. GARD. LESS.

3. Truckwithoutthekey
Initial Holdings: MO, ABT, BMY, TTES
Strengths: Knows how to Google “good stocks.”
Weakness: Still doesn’t know how to find “good stocks.”
Strategy: Huh?

4. The Hurt
Initial Holdings: YHOO
Strengths: Willing to lie and manipulate. No scruples, dignity, self-respect, integrity, etc. to hinder desire to win.
Weakness: Incapable of winning.
Strategy: Randomly pick ONE stock, and hope to get lucky.

So far, The Hurt is in the lead with about a 6% pop today because someone equally as dumb thinks it’s a good idea to try to raise money and buy Yahoo. Dollar to donuts Yahoo sinks within the end of the week. That’s all for now, ingrates.

More Scrooge after the jump! (more…)

This sucks. Lame. Waste of Time. Asses.

Filed under: Uncategorized — hankthebank @ 10:53 pm

So…I’m pissed. In any case, congrats Truckwithoutthekey. You managed to win the first ever 200 Tacos Stock Challenge by randomly and blindly picking stocks. To make matters worse, the only thing to top your incompetence was the negligence displayed by Kel Kel from Hell Hell, who managed to beat everyone by not even looking at this blog once during the competition. But, in the spirit of competition, we can’t possibly let her win now, can we? But whatever, congrats Truckwithoutthekey.

Ass.

The results are in the link, but for many of you, that’ll be the first time you looked at your stocks since we started.

Asses.

So… Who wants to play again?

The market sucks. Short term: who the hell knows. Middle term: down. Long term: depends if you think America will survive. So… up? Welcome to the 200 Tacos Stock Challenge. Also, you lazy bums, this is the last week for October’s challenge, so get off your asses if you don’t want to be a Tinmaker.

Continuation of challenge into November and forward remains undecided. Also, I’d like to point out that since Hank the Bank is in the lead, there will be an award given to the winner of this challenge! Winner of the stock challenge will receive…. YOU GOT IT! ….$100 DOLLARS!*

1. Hank the Bank:
Profit: $4.73 ($104.73)
Notes: I’m not even going to pretend like I know what I’m doing any more. The market is just swinging up and down.

2. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt. (Also, just goes to show, cash under your mattress is the safest investment right now. That and gold teeth. Go big or go home, GRANDMA!)

3. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $-14.00 ($86.00 overall)
Notes: LV continues to suck. AT&T actually has stayed the same. Like owner, like LV stock.

4. The Hurt
Profit: -$19.40 ($80.60)
Notes: What CBAK giveth, CBAK taketh. CBAK is imploding right before our eyes. The Hurt still has no idea what either of these two companies are, what they do, or what their names are (confirmed!).

5. 6. 7. Last. All But Eliminated. Tinmaker
Profit: -$31.78 ($68.22)
Notes: Ladies and gentlemen, the Washington Mutual of this challenge. If you were a stock, I’d double short you. Urban and Tiffany’s…I warned you about retail. Anybody want to take bet’s whether this one will finish above $50?

The two worst strategic mistakes to make are acting prematurely and letting an opportunity slip; to avoid this, the warrior treats each situation as if it were unique and never resorts to formulae, recipes or other people’s opinions.

4. Hank the Bank:
Profit: -$10.82 ($89.18)
Notes: Kind of standard rise across the board. I think that’s a large enough head start for you guys. Now I’ll start trying a little.

This is the 200 Tacos Stock Challenge.

1. Hank the Bank:
Profit: $3.95 ($103.95)
Notes: Not much to say here. Was one day early on the DXD trade, but still prescient nonetheless. DXD double shorts the Dow.

2. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt. (Also, just goes to show, cash under your mattress is the safest investment right now. That and gold teeth. Go big or go home, GRANDMA!)

3. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $-8.78 ($91.22 overall)
Notes: LV sure sucked today. AT&T was no better. Like owner, like stock.

4. The Hurt
Profit: -$10.62 ($89.38)
Notes: What CBAK giveth, CBAK taketh. The Hurt still has no idea what either of these two companies are, what they do, or what their names are (confirmed!). Life’s fair.

567 Last. Tinmaker
Profit: -$26.42 ($73.58)
Notes: Ladies and gentlemen, the Washington Mutual of this challenge. If you were a stock, I’d double short you.

This is absolutely ridiculously. Well, actually it was kind of expected. Anyway, after the worst week in the stock market, we start off this week with THE BEST SINGLE DAY EVER! The 200 Tacos Stock Challenge is now really rolling! All stock indexes are up at least 11 percent today. Ridiculous? No. ReDONKULOus! Here we go for today.

1. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt. (Also, just goes to show, cash under your mattress is the safest investment right now. That and gold teeth.)

2. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $-2.71 ($97.29 overall)
Notes: Not to shabby. Nice boosts across the board today.

3. The Hurt
Profit: -$3.64 ($96.36)
Notes: Got a nice jump, especially from CBAK. The Hurt still has no idea what either of these two companies are, what they do, or what their names are (confirmed!). Life’s fair.

4. Hank the Bank:
Profit: -$10.82 ($89.18)
Notes: Kind of standard rise across the board. I think that’s a large enough head start for you guys. Now I’ll start trying a little.

5. Tinmaker
Profit: -$12.14 ($87.86)
Notes: Ah…Home sweet home. Nice jumps from TIF and URBN. YUM lagged a bit today. Why anyone is content with consumer goods is beyond me.

CHANGES:

Hank the Bank:
Sells
1 WFC @ $30.40
1 MSFT @ $25.50
1 PFE @ $16.68
1 WWE @ $14.82
1 JMBA @ $0.62
1 FNM @ $1.13

Total: $89.18

Hank the Bank
Buys
1 DXD @ $76.00

Hank the Bank thinks the market will get worse, especially after today’s insane rally. DXD goes up 2% for every 1% the Dow drops.

Well, after enduring the worst week in the stock market’s history, it’s safe to say everyone’s portfolio in the 200 Tacos Stock Challenge has been ravaged. With that said, there’s been an awful shake up in our rankings. No one has made any changes to their portfolios since the start of the contest, but we’ll see what next week brings. Without further ado…

1. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt. (Also, just goes to show, cash under your mattress is the safest investment right now. That and gold teeth.)

2. The Hurt
Profit: -$13.46 ($86.54)
Notes: GXDX did OK this week, but CBAK got clobbered. The Hurt still has no idea what either of these two companies are, what they do, or what their names are. Life’s fair.

3. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $-14.41 ($85.59 overall)
Notes: Eh…Stocks took a slight dive like everyone else this week.

4. Tinmaker
Profit: -$19.80 ($80.20)
Notes: Could’ve been a lot worse…but for some reason TIF jumped up $4 (16.58%!!!) on Friday. Don’t know why. In fact, it should’ve went down because an analyst trimmed their estimates on the stock. Weird.

5. Hank the Bank:
Profit: -$19.99 ($80.01)
Notes: F you guys. All of you. A-holes. This is F-in BullS–t.

Here’s the latest update on the 200 Tacos Stock Challenge 2008. The Dow plunged over 800 points today as the global markets contemplated armageddon. But after brief deliberation and realizing that they had errands to run, armageddon was postponed to a later date yet to be determined. The Dow surged back roughly 450 points accordingly. So….

1. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt.

2. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $-5.89 ($94.11 overall)
Notes: Was stupid and bought more Wachovia after it improbably doubled. Now it’s stuck in a mess with Citi and WeFa. Good one.

3. Hank the Bank:
Profit: -$6.09 ($93.91)
Notes: Masterful defense has him avoiding double digit losses like the losers below.

4. The Hurt
Profit: -$10.20 ($89.80)
Notes: Broke double digit losses. Still has no idea what they’re doing…but still doing better than…

5. Tinmaker
Profit: -$15.16 ($84.84)
Notes: Complete and utter failure.

Quick Update

So far, the 200 Tacos Stock Challenge has kicked off without a hitch. Here are the rankings so far after two days of intense competition.

1. TruckwithouttheKey:
Profit: $2.30 ($102.30 overall)
Notes: Wachovia doubled the day after she bought it on news that Wells Fargo would acquire it. Citigroup is contesting because they had a prior deal with WaKo. Don’t give TWOTK too much credit. She also bought Gucci, which isn’t even a public company. (Meaning it doesn’t have stock.)

2. Kel Kel from Hell Hell
Profit: $0.00 ($100.00)
Notes: Has yet to make her picks. Thanks Hurt.

3. Hank the Bank:
Profit: -$2.99 ($97.01)
Notes: Nothing really happening here. Stocks were up and down because of the bailout bill.

4. The Hurt
Profit: -$4.34 ($95.66)
Notes: Bought stocks that she has never heard of, and still doesn’t know what they do…but still doing better than…

5. Tinmaker
Profit: -$10.01 ($89.99)
Notes: Complete and utter failure in the first two days. OUR FIRST DOUBLE DIGIT LOSER!
